This is how the tool treats each page — read from its code, not from a brochure:
- A PNG page under 2 megapixels — a desktop screenshot, 1440×900, is 1.3 — goes into the PDF as PNG, without loss: text and thin lines stay exactly as sharp as in the file.
- A larger PNG, and any photo, is stored as JPEG at the quality of the chosen preset. That is what keeps a 20-page document of phone screenshots from weighing tens of megabytes.
- The presets cap the long side of each page: Compact — 1600 px, quality 0.72, for email and messengers; Balanced — 2400 px, 0.85, the default; Max quality — the image's own pixels, 0.92, for print and archive. Small images are never enlarged.
For receipts and screenshots that must stay readable, choose Balanced or Max quality. If the PDF has to fit a mailbox limit, Compact first — and check a page at 100% zoom before you send it.
